VisualCISG

As part of the first-ever Legal Design Jam, our working group set out to visualize parts of the CISG (The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods).

As the CISG is a lengthy and challenging document, we decided to focus on some topics that we found particularly important and relevant for its users.

Below you can see some of the visualizations I created during the Jam. Everyone’s contribution was collected as a prototype booklet, the VisualCISG.

When does CISG applies?
The list at the top communicates at a glance and with the help of icons when the CIGS applies or not. In the original document, it takes almost three pages to convey the same information.
The visual metaphor at the bottom helps understanding the order of application of CISG.

This series of diagrams in “Incoterms style” explains how the CISG defines “delivery” in three different situations.
